Concepts About Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery |
Self-assurance and confidence are "keys" to our inner feelings. Science and advanced technology allow us to change features through minimal access and non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Whether we desire to change something about our facial or body configuration that is a part of our genetics or that is a result of aging, patients today are offered many options not available even one-two years ago. One can reduce the hump on a nose, improve a weak chin, sculpt prominent ears, remove unwanted body fat, and restore a youthful appearance to an aging face with less downtime and longer lasting results.
In this era of healthier lifestyles (nutrition, exercise, avoidance of smoking and sun, etc.) and longer life expectancy, the treatment options are abundant. We are presented with a new series of treatment options through the use of minimal access surgery, endoscopic surgery, Intense Pulsed Light Treatments, computers (the Internet and Digital Imaging), quality assurance, patient care, and "on-line" chat. All are reminders of the advancement of science that adds patient benefit.
To the patient, four categories of options seem to emerge: contouring, draping, shaping, and aesthetic rejuvenation. Whether your ideas are aimed at change or rejuvenation, your motivation should be directed toward a particular feature or problem(s) that you wish to address. The surgery and treatments should match your needs and desires, not those of others. Facial plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures do have risks, limitations, and complications, as do all other types of surgery and treatment options. To determine whether a particular patient is a suitable candidate for a procedure an appropriate doctor/patient communication is imperative.
It is important to communicate to your doctor and staff the changes that you desire and realistically expect. Your physician and staff are committed to respond to your questions and to propose an orderly treatment plan. After your consultation you, as an "informed patient and consumer," can decide if the proposed treatment plan is appropriate for you.
